Contaminant was conceived in 2005 with its debut 'sanity report'
as an offspring of config.sys, went through its rite of passage
with the 2009 album 'rotcast' which featured a bonus cd
massively packed with remixes, and now the duo is up to their
first adult actions with their 3rd album. this deals with the
subject matter of bugs, which is a fine choice in times when
bugs are increasingly popular, of course. 'honeybug let's cut
the rug' kicks off the album on a downbeat note, with the vocals
of one cherry micklitt deep in the mix. then it's time for the
trademark stiff beats (and some fine wordplay) on the next
tracks: the '8bit bug' bites your head clean off with it's
precise rhythm patterns, 'hart bugbord' and 'roughneck vs.
brainbugs' add larger doses of distortion, and 'contaminauten'
is a massively devastating monster of noisy industrial techno,
well in touch with the signs of the times. from then on, the
massiveness of the onslaught is continually reduced until we
reach 'bad bug bites on the hostel sites', which is more of an
idm affair. continue the journey, and the club appeal kicks back
in, closing with the almost-rave of 'ladybug'. then contaminant
let someone else have the last words: the rhythmic structure of
'bang for the bug' is treated by oszillotom, who crank it up
more classically industrial style to create a surefire club
smasher for audiences thus inclined. swanika don't leave much in
place in their version of 'bad bug bites on the hostel sites',
and just why does this wall of feedback sound seem so
schizophrenic? contaminant have created an album that displays a
distinct quality of rhythm programming and sound design and they
do what an artist should do with an album - take you on a
journey, so you definitely will find yourself in someplace else
after the experience. press play and feel as snug as a bug in
