DOPE STARS INC.'s first 2 albums "Neuromance" and "Gigahearts"
achieved massive sales and media attention across Europe and the
US, gaining chart positions in many countries. But their third
album "21st Century Slave" is their strongest ever.
In the midst of the current global economic collapse, blamed by
most on the excesses of corporate greed, the timing could not be
more appropriate for the socio-political message of "21st
Century Slave". Welcome to DOPE STARS INC.'s dystopian vision of
the world of today, where we are either tools of technology and
giant uncaring corporations, or where we embrace the system to
fight it from within. With "21st Century Slave", DOPE STARS
INC. take up the cyberpunk themes of cult authors like William
Gibson and give them musical form. An awe-inspiring collision of
programmed electronics, heavy rock guitars and punk aggression,
all perfectly produced by charismatic frontman Victor Love.
From the throbbing industrial dance beats of the ominous opening
call to arms "Omega Drones", to the unexpectedly sweet acoustic
pop melodies of the final song "Its For You", the album twists
and turns but never disappoints. Both diverse and decisive in
its musical choices, "21st Century Slave" embraces industrial,
nu-metal and electro influences, but always finds a convergence
that is uniquely DOPE STARS INC.
This special Japanese edition, released through Death Watch
Asia, features three extra tracks in addition the eleven tracks
of the standard European edition: remixes from Tokyo industrial
rock act BAAL, Osaka-based SINS OF THE FLESH and South American
superstars VIGILANTE. It comes in a six-panel digipak with
sixteen-page colour booklet, four-panel inser with Japanese
liner notes and obi. IN beautifully-designed artwork, Victor
Love' musical and lyrical vision is perfectly illustrated by
digital artist Rhett Podersoo, whose depiction of our modern
urban environment resonates with the visual aesthetic of Ridley
Scott's "Bladerunner". Dirty cityscapes and harsh neon oppress
us as attack helicopters patrol the polluted skies... and DOPE
STARS INC. and their star emblem oversee all from rooftops and
TV screens.
