Today, Australian artist Gerry Hawkins stands as one of Alfa Matrix’s most prolific and shape-shifting dark electronic creators through his projects AVARICE IN AUDIO, PROZIUM and DREAM RECALL. But long before these projects took shape, there was a spark — and its name was CRYOGENIC ECHELON! It all began in 2008, when a 17-year-old Gerry heard a GRENDEL track ripped from Limewire. That moment ignited an obsession with the late-00s aggrotech wave. He began writing demos, shaping concepts, and refining ideas with Ayax of ASCENSION EX. Early releases on Crunch Pod and later collaborations with the CRL Studios collective cemented his first musical identity. By 2012, CRYOGENIC ECHELON was releasing albums attracting remix support from scene heavyweights like DAWN OF ASHES, PSYCLON NINE and a then-fateful collaborator: STUDIO-X. The creative chemistry between Gerry and Lawrie exploded into dozens of songs across multiple genres, forming the backbone of CRYOGENIC ECHELON’s intense and diverse catalog. But that diversity came at a cost. Touching aggrotech, drum & bass, dubstep, EDM and industrial, CRYOGENIC ECHELON became impossible to confine - and impossible to satisfy every fan at once. Burnout followed. On Christmas Day 2013, the project was placed on permanent hiatus, and Gerry stepped away from music entirely… or so he thought. In 2014, Alfa Matrix reached out. Gerry returned - but under a new name, leading to the birth of AVARICE IN AUDIO, while CRYOGENIC ECHELON was left to rest in memory. Until now… Today, with “A Monument To Me”, mastermind Gerry Hawkins opens a time capsule - returning to the raw creative spark that predates every project he would later become known for. It brings together 37 tracks from the original 2008–2013 era: a sprawling anthology of songs that, despite their age, sound remarkably timeless. Hard-hitting, melodic, bold, and emotionally charged, they reveal the raw creative DNA that would later fuel all of Hawkins’ projects. Featuring collaborations with Psykkle, MiXE1, vProjekt, Lucidstatic, Sleepless Droids, Ascension EX, and remixes by Grendel, Psyclon Nine, Dawn Of Ashes, Freakangel, Modulate, Studio-X, Sirus, Ruinizer, Vicious Alliance and many more, this anthology restores material that never received a proper label release and was never available on all digital platforms. This is not a comeback. This is a testament - a tribute to the formative years of an artist and to a dark elektro scene that continues to echo through time.
