Francesco Belviso writes music of complex and bewildering shapes, with an aversion to settling in to any particular groove (however fascinating it may be); resoundingly, one of Odessa-X’s defining traits is the perpetual and dizzying shift through polymetric polyrhythmic time-signature-swapping craziness - a creative import from the composer’s savvy skills as a drummer. In short, the rhythmic ideas and sound-design motifs in any single Odessa-X track far outnumber those found often in entire albums.
Transitions travels you through the landscape of an abandoned city where the ghost of human sentiment peers cautiously through the clang of warring juggernauts. In the unrelenting machinery and matrix of every track can be heard the dual and contrary engines of metal and flesh, inhuman and human, cold and warmth, hope and death - just another day on planet earth basically…these strong resonant archetypes have been with electronic and experimental music from the days of the first Futurists.
As Molly Meldrum used to say, do yourself a favour - Dislocated Techno-Rock, Post-Warp Electronica with Industrialist undertones, Ambient Music for beautiful yet troubled souls. Delicious.
