After organizing the remix album “Musik Concrete”, we thought it might be fun to go back to some songs from the 80’s and 90’s (and one much older) to see what we could do with them. Some of these tunes were hits in their time, others were sleepers that we felt were unappreciated and deserved a little more attention, and one, well, we just liked the name and thought it would be a fun song to transform into something very different.
The oddest thing about most of these songs was the prevalence of the searing guitar solo during the bridge. As mainly electronic musicians, we were often vexed about how to handle these, so we took some liberties and tried to come up with things that fit the new style where we could. We also had to deal with lots of tom drums, which were a thing in the 80’s, and whether or not we included those for nostalgia’s sake. Overall, there were interesting challenges, but we’re proud of what we managed to produce.
