The enigmatic dark disco duo from Jakarta, Camlann, return with their third album titled "Train to 86th Street" which marks the start of their reimagined image and sound, as they carve their path as a two-piece following the departure of their bassist Bayu Triyudanto. “Train to 86th Street” is Camlann’s love letter to the golden age of disco and funk that flourished in the late 1970s. The album is set in the late 70's New York City and the album title itself is taken from the street where John Travolta walked in the beginning of his film, "Saturday Night Fever", which is in 86th Street, Brooklyn, New York. This album captured the late 70's New York City through Camlann's modern interpretation and dark approach. In this new chapter of Camlann, Ony Godfrey and Fauzan Pratama offer something different from their previous two albums that were heavily influenced by 80's darkwave, post-punk, and synth-pop sounds.
"Train to 86th Street" is a fresh and unique mixture between Camlann's signature sound with several new elements that you haven't heard from the duo before. The duo infuses their trademark dark electronic sound with 70's disco, funk, soft rock, and electronic elements for a gothic 70’s-inspired electronic sound that captures the character of both the band and the era. Their influences are eclectic, with their sound cherry picked from the disco sound of Bee Gees, Sylvester, and Grace Jones, the darkwave essence of Depeche Mode and Xmal Deutschland, and the sound of late 70's and early 80's alternative electronic artists such as Saâda Bonaire, Kraftwerk, YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA, and Ðóñÿ. A few tracks in this album even have elements that is unexpected coming from the duo, such as 70's ballad and soft rock like Fleetwood Mac and even Elton John. Camlann also reinvented their visual aspect on this album. Ony Godfrey and Fauzan Pratama are giving you vintage glamour and nostalgia that you can clearly see on their latest videos and photographs that are mostly inspired by vintage high fashion and vintage film aesthetic. In this album, the duo are visually influenced by 70's hollywood films such as "Saturday Night Fever", actual video and picture taken in Studio 54, several fashion shows by Claude Montana and Thierry Mugler, and Serge Lutens' makeup and photographs for Dior in the 70's. "Train to 86th Street" is the living proof of Camlann's exciting new journey after reincarnated as a dark disco/dark pop duo.
