founded in 2016 and comprising former djs michael, damien de-vir, and julia de jouy, the kalte welle trio rue oberkampf combines 80s ecstasy with the vibe of the fog-shrouded, strobe-lit dance temples of the techno era. it's a combination of the gritty drive of icy urban electronic music with julia’s french-german vocals.
going further than the legacy of retro electro and paying tribute to the good-old post-punk demons, the trio carefully blends and transforms their minimal cold wave into techno-driven kinetic energy. the strong melody lines drown the listener in a hypnotic and exciting crescendo and suddenly swell to momentous heights with waves of expertly twisting arpeggios, great bass lines and a floating voice of sensuality. the opulent synthesized modern classical interpretations with a dash of techno lends the recording a greater dimension and urgency. the balance between negative space and positive space in this remarkable achievement with it's subtle means, is the unmistakable demand of this simply magic opus.
