The Cry Robot Cry E.P. represents Fate Razor's first all-new-material release, following on from the “Retrospective” Series that marked the reactivation of the project and the remastering of its output from the early to late 90’s.
The textured and visceral clout of Skinny Puppy, Mark Stewart (circa 'As the Veneer of Democracy Starts to Fade'), NIN, and the cool chrome of German Electronica combines with the melodic complexity of Depeche Mode and FR's particular and recognisable strain of Mutant HipHop, Dub, Trap, and Ambient Soundscape. Repeated listening may also reveal the tight mantra-like riffs inspired by Metal and Nu Metal; ie it sounds Fate Razor-ish.
Once again the lyrical and thematic core of these songs preoccupies itself with a deposition and revolt directed at the greatest of all frauds. Here, 'Nihilism' is a blunt and inadequate descriptor; ie darkness is not an outcome, but a passage.
Soundwise, contemporary Analogue and Digital synthesis makes for the dominant tone, while the rhythm programming is trademark FR complexity and guile. Vocally, a new palette emerges beyond the wall of pitch-shifting and distortion; especially in the most recent track "Music Of The Spheres".
The Free bonus track "Hologramatron"is a demo version; a song in process and part of the writing for one of the upcoming releases - "Fallen Machines Ascending, Into Hell".
