french flamenco dancer, singer, performer & composer phil von founded the legendary artistic collective von magnet in 1985 in london. with its unique fusion of electronics, flamenco and theatrical music, von magnet conceived a myriad of releases on vinyl, cd and even dvd format. they toured, playing celebrated concerts and performances all over europe, and as a solo artist, phil performs and composes for various dance and theatre pieces and produces his own works, mirroring his active participation in performance projects. he also launched the electro tribal duo meta meat in 2016 with french musician somekilos and is currently co-directing and composing for the lithuanian butoh dance-theatre company okarukas.
'made underclouds' features a selection of music phil von wrote for 2 performances of the french street-theatre company underclouds, born from the dreams of two circus artists, chloé moura and mathieu hibon who both work as tightrope walkers. for their first co-creation they invented the 'funambus', a bus they grafted a cable on top of, allowing them to remain free and play almost everywhere. this street show for big squares has been running for 6 years in france and europe in front of thousands of spectators. 'made underclouds' presents an upgraded, re-sculpted and carefully remixed soundtrack for their second and third performances 'petites histoires sans gravité' and 'versant' (2016 / 2018). at these shows underclouds crossed borders of a 'regular tightrope act' towards the unusual and unexpected, accompanied by phil's hypnotic and empathic soundtrack.
'made underclouds' is an invitation to visit another facet of the musical ventures by the composer phil von and to discover the sonic world of an exciting re-definition of a 'circus experience'. this opus will transport you across the dream-like melodic atmospheres of a contemporary 'poetic electronica' where complex rhythmic variations play a predominant role and the tension is hidden beneath the surface. if possible take the opportunity to attend one of underclouds‘ breathtaking performances - if not, this release perfectly works as a stand-alone album.
