The machineries of joy have been set in motion for the fourth time to compile a comprehensive overview of modern Electro – from EBM to Industrial, from Bodypop to Electroclash – on two Compact Discs. Thus, the roster of artists on “Machineries of Joy 4” reads like a “who is who” of the scene, enhanced by the most promising newcomers of the past years. Acts like Blutengel, And One, Client, Combichrist, Hocico, Rabia Sorda, Dulce Liquido, Spetsnaz, Angels & Agony and Tristesse de la Lune, to name but a few, should sound familiar not only to genre-aficionados, while Kloq, UnterArt, Din A Tod, Ashbury Heights or Northborne are the living proof that there is a lot still to discover in the underground. Altogether, they showcase the myriads of facets in electronic music culture today. The musical bandwidth ranges from hard to melodic, from experimental to danceable. Furthermore, almost all acts have contributed previously unreleased tracks and remixes, making this double CD a real treat for even the biggest collectors among the Electroheads and relieving them of the frustration of having to purchase the umpteenth compilation of material they mostly already own just to get their hands on the two or three unreleased tracks of their favourite bands. Of course, “Machineries of Joy” also makes a formidable starting point for newcomers who want to start a CD collection. As this double CD will hit the shops at the price of a single disc, its purchase will not rip too big a hole into your monthly budget, either. More than two hours of fat Electro-sounds, almost all of it unreleased, at a low price – what more could you ask for? Joy through machines!
