For the last four years Lost in Desire have been working on their new
studio album "Skin". The effort is clearly reflected in the music, as
they created a new sound by combining even more musical influences. The
result - more powerful and more rocking, without losing the gloomy
melancholic mood of the first album.
The opener and title track “Skin” is stylistically strongly influenced
by 90s grunge, playfully mingling with light-hearted romance. The
following song takes the listener to an 80s
disco with “Coming Home”, while “Weight of the World” captivates the audience with pop extravaganza.
“Transience“ and “Hero“ remind the listener of the electronic roots of
the band. The former is a spheric ode to analogue synthesizers from the
70s, in contrast to “Hero” which commingles drum and bass beats with
thrashing guitar riffs.
As the first released song of the new album, “Zero” presents some
harsher tunes by adding the spirit of goth rock and acid techno to the
newfound elements of the current LP.
“Crimson Poetry“ builds a hypnotizing post-rock soundscape, before “Sun”
presents a psychedelic excursion – musically as well as lyrically.
“Deathwish“, with its piano melody, reminds of classical dark rock.
“Hush Little Baby“ is a melodramatic string symphony and the grand
finale is presented by “Insomnia”, an authentic ballad, accompanied by
the screeching of an antique and dusty piano.
Despite the different influences, Lost in Desire maintain their unique
style. Skin is an emotional explosion, carried by sensual melancholy and
Stephan’s pervasive voice which makes Lost in Desire unique. With their
depth and ambiguity Stephan’s lyrics take the listeners to a surreal
Lost in Desire universe.
