Glis - Seconds (Single) (2013)

GLIS returned after years of silence with the pre-album appetizer "Apocalypse Parties" in the summer of 2012. Then in early 2013, Shaun Frandsen surprised his fans by bringing in a main course of nostalgic indie-darkwave sound to the "Phoenix" album.

He continues to pursue his love for dreamy ethereal rock and post-punk influences on the new 4 song single, "Seconds". A fan favorite from the "Phoenix" album, "Seconds" is freshly remastered by Daniel Myer (HAUJOBB), while Shaun Frandsen and longtime GLIS drummer Michael Wimer take their love of spacious post-punk (JOY DIVISION / SECTION 25) and thrust it into an eerie, sci-fi realm. Almost as if the ghost of Martin Hannett was in the studio with the two, "Seconds" captures the experimental vibe and raw urgency of the post-punk era.

Following "Seconds" are three wondrous B-sides that Shaun Frandsen produced himself in his studio. "Road To Nowhere" continues with more post-punk influences the likes of THE STRANGLERS and HUSKER DU, pairing it with a slamming lo/fi garage rock despondency. "Summertide" is a romantic indie-folk jam that ties in a modern electronic atmosphere, in which Shaun Frandsen wrote based on his own wedding. Finally, "The Ghost Of Us" is a lush and haunting swan song of lost love that blends acoustic guitar with the same distinctive electronics that GLIS introduced to us on "Phoenix". All in all, "Seconds" serves up as a rich, palatable dessert to the main course of "Phoenix" and showcases that there's more to Shaun Frandsen's artistry as a musician than we originally thought. What will he do next?
