They Must Be Russians is a British post-punk group from Sheffield known for their classic new wave sound. Named after a quote about Sex Pistols, the band had a long creative journey from 1979 to 1985, releasing several singles and two full-length albums: They Must Be Russians (1983) and Groundless Accusations (1985). Their musical legacy also includes the 12-inch single Red Square with remixes and new material. The collective collaborated with the avant-garde group Cabaret Voltaire and shared a unified aesthetic language with other British new wave and post-punk bands of the era. Recently, their entire catalog was remastered by sound engineer Martin Bowes and released on CD format for the first time.
