When the world is too quiet, Unmute. 16PAD NOISE TERRORIST returns with his 5th full-length album, one that again refuses to conform, twisting and reshaping the contours of breakbeat, breakcore, and halfstep into something unmistakably his own. It’s an adventurous, genre-defying collection where moments of atmospheric depth stand in stark contrast to rhythmic aggression and seismic bass weight-an album that thrives on the tension between alluring fragility and the collapse of the world around it. This comes as a sequence to the “Return“ 6-track vinyl and further expands that release’s challenging stance. It opens with the title track, setting the tone with an unsettling, drifting soundscape before “Maintance Rytm“ and “Eclec Trac“ begin to loosen the structure-playful, freeform, and already hinting at the album’s refusal to settle into predictable patterns. Where some tracks allow space to unfold, “Omnicore I“ and “Omnicore II“ cut directly to the point-modern and convincing crossbreed club tracks that trade gradual development for immediate pressure and impact. “Curve“ follows as an exercise in classic breakbeat language, finely chopped amens and restless momentum, while “Funking Drone“ remains deeply urgent, pushing its weighty textures into almost hypnotic territory. Among the many highlights is “The Poison Ivy Song“, a broken beat anthem for an alternate reality where intricate, melancholic grooves would top the charts. Here, it also appears in a hard-hitting remix by DJ Hidden, pushing its emotional weight even further. Meanwhile, “Pictures at an Exhibition“ takes a conceptual turn, an ambitious reflection that’s as much food for thought as it is a surprisingly laid-back piece. And then, as a grand finale, the legendary Russell Haswell takes “Illustra Ton“ and pushes it beyond its boundaries-quirky, unpredictable, and completely unrestrained-a fittingly extreme conclusion to an album that constantly challenges expectations. Across 16 tracks, “Unmute“ is a bold artistic statement, a complex, detailed sonic language that speaks beyond the constraints of style and resonates with those who dare.
