The New Zealand collective KOMUNITAT presents Dust Curse, its long-awaited debut album — a post-industrial monument unfolding across three sides, traversing the burning dust of Peter Beard and descending into the accursed abyss of Lautréamont. The vinyl edition is released by the Portuguese label Kontra Kultura. Formed in Auckland in 2024 and shrouded in a certain obscurity, KOMUNITAT swiftly released four consecutive EPs that circulated like clandestine manifestos: Let The Boys Come Home (EP1 and EP2) and Elon Is A Clown (EP3 and EP4). Now, with Dust Curse, this “secret” community of musicians and artists unveils its foundational work — a conceptual record charting human fragility, political violence, conscious eroticism and black mysticism. Musically, the group claims an insubordinate lineage: Virgin Prunes, Fad Gadget, Nitzer Ebb, Laibach, Coil, Depeche Mode, Silver Apples, Bauhaus, Cold Cave, Minimal Compact, Joy Division, Ike Yard, Black Asteroid and Scott Walker. Their aesthetic merges ritualistic post-punk, industrial electronics, abrasive minimal synth and a lyricism oscillating between manifesto and philosophical contemplation. Dust Curse emerges from this convergence — an album that feels at once archaeological and futuristic.
