Redeye Black Tears' (REBT) debut album, Cuddling Monsters, takes listeners on an emotional journey. “I am a glass-half-full person, albeit with a lifelong curiosity to explore the empty and the dark,” says Zoltan Kurali, REBT’s singer, songwriter, and lyricist. The nine songs on Cuddling Monsters delve into themes of love, loss, deceit, disappointment, the hopelessness of enduring conflicts, and the decay of the world as we know it. “It is still a humanist record, and it’s a melodic record,” Kurali adds, with hope and beauty shining through the arrangements and sonic landscapes. These qualities are most notably present in the penultimate track, “Moondust Silver,” which draws inspiration from the goth-favorite 1983 movie The Hunger and the ancient harmonies of the Hurrian Hymn to the goddess Nikkal.
