Shangri-Lass, the solo project of Sheffield-based musician and Sister Wives bassist Rose Love, will release its debut EP, Over & Over. It's an off-quilting mix of '60s girl group-influenced synthpop and brooding punk.
Rose Love grew up in Leeds. She was the daughter of a hippie born-again Christian who ran a church and lived with its members. Her parents gave up her best-of albums when she became a Christian, but a few went into her childhood, from her collection of 60's/70's rock (Led Zep, Jethro Tull, Van Morrison) to church life. There was always music, right down to worship songs sung with the band.
Love rebelled against Christianity and got into all sorts of music and local subcultures when she was really young. By the time she was 17, she was DJing at '50s and '60s-inspired club nights, playing keyboards in a surf/garage punk band, playing banjo in a doom-folk duo, and playing psychedelic bands stuck in the basement. I am also enrolled in She first picked up bass when bilingual "myth rock" quartet Sister Wives formed in 2017, and she's released a number of EPs since.
'Over & Over' is a collection of personal songs written during difficult times in the last few years, plus one cover of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac 'Dragonfly'. Borrowing moments from '60s girl groups, '70s glam rock, Ty Segaard-Exe Garage, and French pop, this genre-spanning EP highlights Love's eclectic musical tastes. is appearing.
