After the "Your pain"-album released in 2005, Acylum strikes back
with a new exploration of the darkest and roughest parts of dark
electronics. This project from Chemnitz composes a quite
surprising mix of harsh and rather chaotic structures refined by
cold, melodious parts. It more sounds like a duality than a real
symbiosis, but it works quite well on a few songs. I'm here
thinking to the cool "Hunger" and the instrumental "Your
devotion"-songs. Both pieces are less harsh, which simply
increases the more traditional dark electronic style. The harsh
side of the sound reminds me a bit to the early years of Skinny
Puppy, but here stops any further link. The distorted vocals
perfectly fits to the sound, which progressively comes over you
like a bulldozer. Acylum is hard and merciless and the remixes at
the end of the album by Xentrifuge, Accessory and Wynardtage are
a good diversity to the brute style of the compositions. This is
definitely an album for tough guys!
