Jetstream Lovers are headed up by ex-Goteki frontman Ross
Tregenza. With Jetstream Lovers Ross brings us a matured, more
sophisticated sound, a little older, a little wiser but still
with the cheeky grin and a nose for a stomping chorus. The band
are off to a great start with Voodoo Nature, a nifty fusion of
early rock and electro-indie, with a nod to 90's pop music in
the form of a cover of Ace Of Bass' All That She Wants (in the
band's own style, of course). A recurring theme of the CD is the
perils of modern life Ö enjoying the reckless hedonism, but
feeling lost and soulless when it's over. This darker
undercurrent is balanced by some lighter tracks such as Vietnam
and Vanessa, which rest in pure pop territory. Overall the album
is an interesting blend of influences that ends up feeling like
a 60s pop album made with modern technology. Vocally, influences
are drawn from a number of 60s-80s figures such as Bowie, Steve
Strange or John Lennon while the instrumentation is a blend of
retro indie mixed with modern electro pioneers such as The Audio
Bullies, Fischerspooner or Richard X.
